Charity and Not for Profit Clients

Registered Charitable organisations

The specialist Charity Division at Richard Place Dobson acts for over 80 charities of varying size between income levels of £7,000 and £3m, incorporating Accounts Production, Independent Examination, Audit and where relevant Taxation services to the clients in our portfolio. Of these approximately half are religious charities while the other half consists of a range of charities from ‘high street’ charities to significant grant giving charities and national charities who have secured European Social Fund income. Other advice is also offered to our clients in the sector involving areas such as assistance with the implementation of new computerized accounting systems, 'Risk Management' and other areas where policy is required including 'Reserves'.

With over 20 year's experience of acting for Registered Charities and with a specialist team in place, our expertise in this area is assured. Also, with the demand for our services in this sector constantly increasing due to ever increasing regulation, including a new Charities Act and the continual update of the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP), the Charity Division is continuing to grow.

We also conduct regular Seminars to the Charity Sector in the Crawley and Horsham area, as well as running an annual Seminar in the London area with our other professional colleagues. Our clients are invited to attend these events, most being free of charge as this service is considered as supplementary to our core services to assist in keeping up to date with all financial matters affecting the sector. We also run courses on other areas of our profession, including PAYE issues, Budget updates and other topical areas.

Other Not for Profit organisations

As well as the substantial Registered Charity client base, Richard Place Dobson also offer services to other organisations in the 'Not for Profit' sector. We have extensive experience in dealing with clubs and associations and conduct many audits for these organisations as well as preparing their annual accounts. We also have experience of dealing with Housing Companies, Housing Associations and Registered Social Landlords.

As well as assisting in compliance areas such as annual accounts and audit, we also assist in improving the bookkeeping and accounting systems maintained by our clients in this sector. This has included assisting with the implementation of new computerised accounting packages to improve and update accounting records and the subsequent training of the personnel responsible for data input.
